There is no such thing as a free lunch
Australia, with its highly variable climate seems to slip from environmental crisis to crisis. Maybe to really make the most of these events we need to a dose of humility, an acknowledgement that we are not in control. If we could achieve this, then maybe we’d learn, adapt and prosper in the face of an increasingly uncertain future.
There are many parallels here with climate change. Truth, freedom and justice are central to our effort to find some form of sustainable solution to the challenge of climate change. Yet our engagement with these ideas is mired in self-interest, the preservation of the status quo and holding on to existing power.
