Sustainability Bites

If there are any of you left.

This is just a quick note to say that Sustainability Bites has been quiet now for several months.

I have still been publishing my weekly newsletter, Dbytes, but Sus Bite blogs have not been happening.

This is not because I have given up on ‘sustainability’, though the state of the world sometimes suggests I may as well.

It’s because I have been writing a book on why our efforts at sustainability have been failing. (I’m writing it with my colleague Quentin Grafton.) And what have we found? Basically, that current forms of democracy are not up to the task. Technology and efficiency might help, but without a deeper more deliberative form of democracy, they aren’t going to save us (though believing they are the solution is actually a siren song of delay).

And my blog partner, Peter Burnett, is also writing a book on sustainability and institutional reform.

Hopefully, both of us will be sharing excerpts and insights from these books in the months ahead.

So, if you’re still part of team Sus Bite, I hope you’ll stay with us a bit longer because there is some quality sustainability synthesis coming your way soon. I’m confident you’ll find it stimulating (and even provocative).

In the meantime, there will be a few bonus blogs from friends and colleagues. To kick it off, the following blog comes to you from Michael Vardon, our environmental accounts guru.
